Winter 2023 Greater Western New York (Virtual) Town Hall Meeting

This special edition of the State of Greater Western New York Report contains the quarterly Greater Western New York Town Hall meeting. Co-sponsored by a dozen community newspapers in the Western New York District of the New York Press Association, this one-hour show features three keynote speakers highlighting current issues they have with certain specific Albany policies.

In the show’s first half, John Fitzak, Orleans County Legislator explains the path his county and other counties took in drafting a strongly worded resolution opposing the proposed natural gas appliance ban. Next up, Town of Henrietta Supervisor Steve Schultz outlines how the towns of Monroe County aligned to lobby against Albany’s proposed zoning regs which have the potential to have the State usurp local control from sovereign municipalities. Finally, Jim Ryan, Mayor of Montour Falls in Schuyler County takes you through the labyrinth process involved with trying to apply for New York State grants and how this is taxing on smaller communities.

The second half of the show featured a panel including all keynoters, where they elaborated in depth on these issues. They give us a sense of what they’re constituents are thinking and what you can do to help your own local officials address these matters.
