Rob Thompson Explores and Explains The Sullivan Expedition
In war, you always fight harder when you are on defense. What happens when both sides are playing defense at the same time? Click the link below for this week’s episode of The State of Greater Western New York Report as we explore how the Sullivan Expedition reflects this, as well as its impact on the Greater Western New York Region.
Guest Rob Thompson, author of the recently (2023) published Behold and Blush! as well as many other books, tells us how growing up in South Lima and the tales of his father inspired him to write about history. He ends the first half of the show telling the tragic story of Thomas Boyd.
In the show’s second half, Thompson begins by explaining Mary Jemison’s role in discovering the history of the Seneca during and after the Revolutionary War. He then goes into detail on what George Washington instructed Sullivan to do and why he did it. Finally, he ends with a frank discussion on claims the campaign represented “genocide,” especially when compared to previous atrocities during and preceding the Columbian Era.
Our guest happily answered questions from the live audience. In fact, these are probably some of the same questions you had.
