Paleontologist George McIntosh on the State of Greater Western New York Report – March 25, 2021
This week features a (very) quick overview of the geological originals of the Greater Western New York Region and answers the question you know you’ve been asking for a long time: Why trilobites?
In the first segment, you will learn the things they didn’t tell you in Earth Science class. For example, if you think we’re a snow belt now, did you know the Greater Western New York Region was once located in the South Pole? But that’s not all, and you’ll be astonished to hear why.
The show’s second segment features paleontologist George McIntosh (Rochester Museum & Science Center, emeritus). McIntosh explains why Greater Western New York was once below the equator, how come the rocks we have here are similar to the rocks found in Europe, and why there is so much interest in the rocks found in our region. Oh, yeah. One more thing. He reveals why there are so many darn trilobites around here.
