All About The Genesee Country Village & Museum on This Week’s State of Greater Western New York Report – July 22, 2021

Here’s a very interesting show that tells you a lot of things about the Greater Western New York Region you might not know about. We feature a full show devoted to the Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, New York. Most museums collect artifacts and display them in hallowed halls of specially designed buildings. What if, however, the buildings themselves were the artifacts? That’s the Genesee Country Village and Museum. It’s a collection of 18th and 19th-century buildings arrays in a typical early American town square. You can literally step back in time as you stroll through the buildings and grounds.

In the show’s first segment, President and CEO Becky Wehle and Curator of Collections Peter Wisbey talk the helm as they tell us the fascinating story of how this favorite destination of families and school children came to be. Along the way, we also learn how the term “Genesee Country” came to be, how this museum is similar to others across the country, and what makes it unique among “living history” collections.

In the second half of the show, you’ll find out more about the buildings, the region, and most importantly, how you can engage with the Genesee Country Village and Museum through a wide array of family-oriented events and happenings.

Our guests happily answered questions from the live audience. In fact, these are probably some of the same questions you had.
