Robert Emerson Explores History of and Current Activities/Events at Old Fort Niagara

We all know of the competing territorial claims of Greater Western New York during the Colonial Era. But are you aware of the epicenter of those claims? Click the link below for this week’s episode of The State of Greater Western New York Report to discover the rich history of one of Greater Western New York’s oldest standing structures.

This week’s guest Robert Emerson, Executive Director of Old Fort Niagara begins by telling us of the origins and competition for Fort Niagara, from its construction by the French to its capture by the British, to the post-Revolutionary War tug of war between America and the Crown.

In the show’s second half, Emerson reveals what happened to the Fort once it was firmly in American hands following the War of 1812 and how it oscillated between use and disuse. Finally, he highlights the events and activities scheduled for the summer of 2023.

Our guest happily answered questions from the live audience. In fact, these are probably some of the same questions you had.
