How To Submit An Idea For The Greater Western New York Minute

Do you know any children in fourth or seventh grade? More importantly, do you know any fourth or seventh-grade teachers? Click the link below for this week’s episode of The State of Greater Western New York Report because here’s an attractive tool they can use to go beyond the typical New York State history curriculum and begin to explore the history of the Greater Western New York Region.

Host Christopher Carosa also serves as Deputy Historian for the Town of Mendon in Monroe County. He has spoken to the New York State Historian Devin Lander about a project he’s working on for the 250th-anniversary celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Part of that project includes creating a series of “Greater Western New York Minute” educational videos. As he explains in this broadcast, Carosa is sharing these videos with any 4th or 7th-grade school teachers who would like to use them to spark interest in a particular topic they are about to teach.

The submission should be in bullet-point form and include the following:

• A title that describes the topic or event you are suggesting.
• An attention-grabbing first sentence.
• A 2-3 sentence description of the story’s antagonist (or obstacle)
• A 2-3 sentence description of the story’s protagonist (or focus)
• A 2-3 sentence description of the resolution (or outcome) of the conflict between the protagonist and antagonist.
• Close with a single sentence “What Happens Next” tease suggesting a consequence of the resolution (or outcomes) that might merit following up on.
