America 250 At The Buffalo History Museum… and More!

America 250 is here! How is Greater Western New York preparing to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary? Click below for this week’s episode of The State of Greater Western New York Report to find out!

In this episode, host Chris Carosa welcomes Melissa Brown, Executive Director of the Buffalo History Museum and Erie County Historical Commissioner. Brown discusses the museum’s historic home (the former New York State Building from the 1901 Pan American Exposition) and its Canalside location. Melissa shares Erie County’s new America 250 webpage, the downloadable commemoration guide, and the major event on August 2nd at Naval Park and Canalside.

The highlight is the new exhibit Glamerica 250, opening Friday, May 15th, with a free public reception, DJ, red carpet, and creative historic dress encouraged. The show explores American identity through fashion — from early garments like a DeWitt Clinton vest to contemporary runway looks and local stories of workwear and regalia.

Our guest happily answered questions from the live audience. In fact, these are probably some of the same questions you had.
